Going Solo

A lot of you have been asking - what's next?

Well... I had considered doing nothing for a while but that didn't work out.

So I’m now very pleased to be able to announce a UK solo tour in November ’16 on top of the three summer festival dates already announced (Cambridge, Snape Proms & Sidmouth)

It'll just be me on stage - voice, fiddle, guitar, concertina stomp box etc and I’ll be playing a variety of traditional material (including a few Bellowhead favourites) alongside my own songs from Painted Lady and Songs from the Floodplain.

I’ve also got a few new tracks on the go. Here’s a performance of “All Hang Down”, a new re-write of a old shanty. If you sign up to my mailing list (top right) you'll get a free mp3 of this.

More stuff to follow, watch this space!

Painted Lady 10th Anniversary Re-issue

Unbelievably it's 10 years since I released Painted Lady. To celebrate this (and because I've run out of stock) the wonderful Navigator Records will be re-issuing the album on vinyl, CD and DL in September.

The CD & DL albums will include 3 newly recorded songs including full band versions of "All Hang Down" and "I Want to Dance With Somebody", plus a live solo recording of "Old Brown's Daughter". The vinyl album will come with a download code for these three bonus tracks.

It's still a way off but if you pre-order now you get an immediate download of a solo recording of Roll Alabama and a signed A5 art card.

Farewell to Bellowhead

It's been an amazing 12 years. Bellowhead has just been this beautiful, amazing thing and I feel so privileged and joyful to have been a part of it. I'm sorry for all the upset that the band ending has caused many of you and I know many would have liked Bellowhead to go on forever. There are many reasons behind the decision being made which have been covered elsewhere, but the main thing for me is that I feel I still have a creative journey to undertake and, although I'm not clear at this stage precisely where that journey will take me, I was and am still sure that it's not to a place that Bellowhead would have been heading to had I stayed.

So welcome to my new website and to a new chapter. I am going to be heading out on the road to do some solo shows over the summer and in November to see where that leads me. I hope you can join me on what is likely to be something of a voyage of discovery!
